Good old Ben...

Ben Franklin was appointed to the committee to edit Thomas Jefferson's original document of the Declaration of Indpenndence, adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. He didn't acvtually sign the declaration until August 2, 1776, when 55 others signed it as well. He was the oldnest member of the Continental Congress at age 70. While signing the Declaration of Independence, Benjamin Franklin made the memorable remark...
"We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang
separately."
Today it brings a smile because it seems like a typical Franklin comment, profound humor. However, underneath the light-hearted rhetoric was a very serious truth: they were all committing treason against the British crown. They were putting their lives on the line for American freedom.
It is a reminder of the strength of their convictions. The comment brings a smile. But, their courage brings a greater one, a smile of gratitude of world-class leaders like the men who guided the foundation of the nation. Oh, for leaders like that today.
Happy July 4.
God bless America. America bless God.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
